Rob Ramjan, CEO of the Schizophrenia Fellowship
Schizophrenia and mental illness are once again in the media spotlight for all the wrong reasons.

Isolated cases involving mental illness too often shape public perception and develop a skewed understanding of conditions such as schizophrenia.

As one of the most heavily stigmatised conditions, schizophrenia not only affects the patient but also their families, friends and carers. Nobody chooses mental illness, but people living with schizophrenia do make many important choices to assist them on their road to recovery – one of which is helping the community understand more about the condition.

As such, five Australians living with schizophrenia have taken their story to the World Wide Web, with a revealing insight into how making every day choices has helped their ongoing recovery. Their clips can be viewed at www.youtube.com/MyChoiceAU

A website known as www.mychoice.net.au was developed by Janssen-Cilag in collaboration with the Schizophrenia Fellowship of NSW and SANE Australia. The site supports the clips and provides a resource tool for those wanting to learn more about schizophrenia.
